When He climbed to the top of the Mountain | Allaahu Musta’an

On the authority of Abu Umaamah Al-Baahilee (May Allaah be pleased with him) he said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) say:

“While I was sleeping two men came to me and took me by my arms and brought me to a steep mountain and said to me: “Climb!” I said, “I don’t have the ability to do so.” They said “indeed we will make it easy for you” so I began to climb. I climbed until I came to the summit of the mountain where I heard terrible cries. I said, “What are these voices?” They replied, “That is the howling of the people of the Fire.”

Then they took me further on until I came to a people who were strung by their hamstrings, with their jawbones torn and flowing with blood. I said, “Who are these individuals?” They said, “These are the people who break their fast before the time at which they may do so.”

Then they continued on with me, we came to people who had the most severe swelling, most repugnant stinch, and worst appearance. I said, “Who are these people?” It was said, “These are the males and females who committed Zinaa” (Fornication and/or Adultery).

Then they took me and we came across some women whose breasts were being bitten by snakes. I said, ” What is the situation of these women? It was said, “These are the women who prevent their children from their breast milk.”

Then they took me and I came across some children playing between two rivers. I said, “Who are these children?” It was said, “These are the offspring of the believers.” Then I was given an honor, I was with three individuals who where drinking some wine of theirs. I said, “Who are these individuals?” They said, “This is Ibraheem, Moosaa and Eesaa and they are waiting for you.”

Manners of Seeking Permission for entry into a house- A short comment from Imaam Ibn Baaz

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri reported,”while I was in one the gatherings of the Ansar, Abu Musa came as if he was scared, and said, ‘I asked permission to enter upon ‘Umar three times and he did not give me permission, so I returned. (When Umar came to know about it) he said to Abu Musa, ”Why did you not enter?” Abu Musa said, ”I asked permission to enter three times and was not given permission, so I went back, for the Messenger of Allah (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said, ”When one of you asks for permission to enter three times and is not given it, he should go back.” He (Umar) said, ”By Allah, you will bring witnesses for it.” (Abu Musa went to a gathering of the Ansaar) and said: ”Is there any of you who heard it from the Prophet, (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam)?” Ubayy ibn Ka’b said, ”By Allah, only the youngest of the people will go with you.” I was the youngest of the people and I went with him and informed Umar that the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) had said that. [Saheeh Al-Bukhaari: [Vol 8Hadeeth Number: 6245]

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz (rahimahullaah) said: This (i.e. Umar asking for a witness) was for the purpose of verification, because it is (related) to legislation (of acts of worship etc). [And concerning the witness to that being the youngest of the Sahaabah], then that is because it was a well-known Sunnah that was even known to the young. Staying quiet when a brother/sister/Scholar/Rulers honour is being attacked?!- Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan hafidhahullaah

What is the legislated action for the believer in this situation?

“If he happens to attend a gathering and his Muslim brother is being mentioned with sin or being degraded, then he defends him as he would defend his own honor, because his brother’s honor is like his own.”

Abu ad-Darda’ (رضى الله عنه) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: “Whoever defends his brother’s honor in his absence, Allah will protect his face from the Fire of Hell on the Day of Resurrection.”[Related by At-Tirmidhi who graded it to be Hasan. Ahmad has something similar from the Hadeeth of Asmaa’ bint Yazeed.]

Explanation:“Whoever defends his brother’s honor in his absence…”Meaning: In the state of his brother’s absence. If he happens to attend a gathering and his Muslim brother is being mentioned with sin or being degraded, then he defends him as he would defend his own honor, because his brother’s honor is like his own.

Therefore he defends his brother’s honor, by censuring the backbiters and preventing them from persisting as it relates to the honor of his Muslim brother. He does not resign and stay quiet, leaving them to backbite. This is the Muslim’s obligation, and it is not permitted for him to stay quiet and keep the peace, for he will be sinning due to that and he will be a sharer and partner to them regarding the sin, (that is) because he saw an evil (taking place) and he did not change it, whilst having the ability to do so.

How much more then, if he participated with them in the act, and he began backbiting with them? This is even worse. As for if he defends his brother’s honor and he prevents them from backbiting his brother, then Allah, the Majestic and Exalted, will reward him by protecting his face from the Fire on the Day of Resurrection. This is a tremendous favor, because on the Day of Resurrection, the Fire will be brought in to view.

He, the Most High, said:َ
وُبِّرَزت ٱۡلَجِحيُم لَِمنَ يَرى

“And Hell-fire shall be made apparent in full view for (every) one who sees.” (79:36)

And He, the Majestic and Exalted, said:َ
وَرَءا ٱۡلمجِرُموَن ٱلَّناَر َفظُّنٓوْاأََّنُہم ُّمَواِقُعوَها

“And the Mujrimoon (criminals, polytheists, sinners) shall see the Fire and apprehend thatthey have to fall therein.” (18:53)

It will be hot and blazing, and nothing will protect against it except for righteous actions. A person will look to his right side, and he will not see anything except what he has done, and he will look to his left side and he will not see anything except what he has done, and he will look in front of himself and he will not see anything except the Fire, therefore it is upon him to prepare for this situation.

And from preparing for this situation is to refrain from (encroaching upon) the honor of the Muslim and defending them.So this (hadeeth) contains the exhortation toward defending the honor of the Muslims which is being violated in gatherings or in writings. If you were to see someone writing about a Muslim, and the ‘Ulamaa’ specifically, and the Muslim Ruler, then it is upon you to defend them, as this is from defending the honor of the Muslims.

Allah frees slaves from the fire on Arafat more than any other day!!

Likewise, the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) said, ‘There is no day on which Allaah frees people from the Fire more so than on the day of ’Arafah. He comes close to those (people standing on ’Arafah), and then He revels before His Angels saying, ‘What are these people seeking.” [Jaami’ut-Tirmidhee (3/377)]

Fasting on the day of Arafah is an expiation for two years!! Arafah is on MONDAY in shaa Allaah

The ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah is the day of ’Arafah, since it is on this day that the pilgrims gather at the mountain plain of ’Arafah, praying and supplicating to their Lord. It is mustahabb (highly recommended) for those who are not pilgrims to fast on this day, since the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) was asked about fasting on the day of ’Arafah, so he said, “It expiates the sins (Minor) of the past year and the coming year.” [Muslim (no. 1162)]

Imaam at-Tirmidhee (d.275H) – rahimahullaah – said, “The People of Knowledge consider it recommended to fast on the day of ’Arafah, except for those at ’Arafah.” [Muslim (no. 1348)]

Allaah Took The Covenant From The Progeny Of Aadam On ‘Arafaah

Ibn ‘Abbaas:

The Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Allaah took the covenant from the loins of Aadam in Na’maan, (i.e., ‘Arafah). He brought forth from his loins all his offspring and spread them before Him, then He addressed them, and said:

{Am I not your Lord? They said, ‘Yes, we testify,’ let you should say on the Day of Resurrection: ‘Verily, we have been unaware of this.’ Or lest you should say: ‘It was only our fathers aforetime who took others as partners in worship along with Allaah, and we were (merely their) descendents after them; will You then destroy us because of the deeds of men who practised Al-Baatil (i.e., ploytheism and committing crimes and sins, invoking and worshipping others besides Allaah)?} [soorah Al-A’raaf, 172-173].

Supplicating for a Disbeliever

‘Uqbah b. ‘Âmir Al-Juhanî – Allâh be pleased with him – once passed by a man who looked like a Muslim, so he greeted him with salâm, and he replied, “And upon you [be peace] and the mercy of Allâh and His blessings.” A boy informed him, “He is a Christian!” So ‘Uqbah got up and followed the man, caught up with him and said, “The mercy of Allâh and His blessings are upon the believers; however, may Allâh give you a long life, and make plentiful your wealth and offspring.”

Al-Bukhârî, Al-Adab Al-Mufrad.

Shaykh Al-Albânî grades its chain of narration hasan in Sahîh Al-Adab Al-Mufrad p444, and notes, “In this narration this illustrious Companion indicates that it is permissible to supplicate for someone to have a long life, even if he is an unbeliever, and so [this can be done for] a Muslim a fortiori…However, the supplicant should make sure that the unbeliever is not an enemy of the Muslims. It is also taken from this [narration] that such an unbeliever can be commiserated with what has been mentioned therein [i.e. the believers are the ones who will receive the mercy of Allâh and His blessings].”
